typhoon hagupit

Typhoon Hagupit (in Chinese 黑格比 or Hei Ge Bi), which is between us and Northern Vietnam right now (about a 300 mile radius) - actually it will hit land in part of China, has caused a storm surge with flooding here. The first floor is flooded (the street where the Deli Shop is, etc.) but the second level is OK - taxi's are still able to leave if driving on high ground. The winds are very high. Very few boats are out - just one large ship, no ferries. . . but believe it or not, there are still Pearl River swimmers out in this!! We have our American Consulate visit this afternoon - we are hoping that will not be delayed . . . hopefully the flooding with recede because if we don't do that, our departure would likely be delayed.

The pools of this hotel are all flooded with the Pearl River. . . The wind has blown out some of the smog and we can see the mountains in the distance better now.
