pearl river

The Zhu Jiang,(珠江 Pinyin: Zhū Jiāng), or Pearl River, is China's third longest river (2,200 km, after the Yangtze River and the Huang He), and second largest by volume (after the Yangtze). Located in the south, it flows into the South China Sea between Hong Kong and Macau.

We took these photos from our hotel window.

Those Pearl River swimmers we saw this morning were out this evening too! They must do this everyday (twice a day?). There are many boats, ferries, and barges on this river - all dodging each other. One boat went between the swimmers this morning.

This evening it looked like a police ski boat picked up a couple of the swimmers because they were in the shipping lane. There is a boat that goes along the river edge picking up all the trash floating in the river.

The shores along the river are all lit up like Las Vegas at night, until maybe midnight and then they turn the lights off again (the lights went out on the buildings like that in Changsha too - to conserve energy). I like Guangzhou. Shamian Island is pretty. However, Changsha was interesting too. We enjoyed the people in Changsha and it was neat to see the city and be there for the Mid-Autumn Festival. In Guangzhou, there is little need for wearing 'the tag' around all the time and that has been one less thing to have hanging around me in this sweaty weather.

It sounds like a typhoon is headed toward North Vietnam (South of here in Hong Kong may get some of it).
