My mother has always been passionate about art - painting in particular. She earned her MFA (along with a previous literature degree) but her love of art started when she was a child and it has never stopped. It was not unusual to find dried oil paint on furniture in our house (she is not one of the 'neat' kind of painters - it is a whole body experience). Although she does not move around as well or quickly as she used to. She teaches art at my nephews school on Fridays. This Friday, in honor of Chinese New Year, they made lions and drew dragons. She read some stories about CNY and the significance of the lion and dragon in traditional CNY celebrations.

My mom has been very encouraging from the start about our adoption and has dived in with learning (although she already knew much more than I about China) more about China.
